Ernst Rudolf Erni founded the company in Switzerland in 1947. In 1956, ERNI began manufacturing electromechanical components in Adelberg, Germany.

After a period of steady growth, ERNI Electronics GmbH became the world’s first manufacturer of backplane connectors that complied with the new standard DIN 41612 in 1968. The new standard DIN 41612 has evolved into the most widely accepted standard for industrial printed-circuit board connectors in the world. Today, ERNI is the leading supplier for 2mm H.M. connectors and ZD connectors, offering a full range of backplane, board-to-board & board-to-cable connectors with superior design and continuous innovation.

ERNI has established its Asia Headquarter in Singapore since 1996 and opened up sales offices in China, India, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines.

Over the past few years, ERNI Asia set up a warehouse in Hong Kong to provide a more efficient logistics. We have also established ELSA ERNI System Beijing, as well as ERNI Electronics (Thailand), to cater for cable assembly services. We aim to expand connector design resources and further production facilities in Asia. In 2014, ERNI Electronics (China) in Shenzhen was set up to provide better support and services to customers in China.
